Jan. 28th, 2025 10:59 pmIn the past twelve months we've gone to see: Blind Guardian, Iron Maiden, Eivør & Heilung, Hammerfall, and Wardruna. Coming up: Within Temptation, The Longest Johns, and Valhalore. Given that I haven't been to see a band since about 2007, I feel quite accomplished*. I also regret how much of my life was wasted to unmanaged illness. Not much to do about that other than live as best as I can now. And possibly stare off into the distance a trifle moodily from time to time.
I have only had to drive to two of these events, and will probably only have to drive to Within Temptation as I'm not sure if we can get there by public transport. Well, we probably can get there by public transport, but getting home afterwards would be a bit difficult on the old bod. Incidentally the accessibility options at these events have all been so much better than I expected. Some of the venues even try to have sensory friendly options for people. I don't think that was even a concept in the olden days. Change can be good.
(*However, I'm still kicking myself for missing out on Eluveitie a while back, and The Hu, but I didn't have a car then--or even a licence--and getting there would have been impossible. Play somewhere central instead of out in the sticks, honestly!)
